My teenage niece, who is a wickedly talented artist, was facing a dilemma: how to create a functional storage space in her small bedroom for all her art supplies. So I created an art supply station using an over-the-door organizer. It now hangs on the back of her bedroom closet door, conveniently located near her art desk.

Today, I'll share how it turned out and provide inspiration for other ways you could use this product.

Yes - you can skip right to the organizing product we used HERE, but to make the most of your space, declutter first please!

Declutter First

Consider donating excess art supplies and tools that are not being used to someone who would benefit from having them. It is difficult to let go of supplies, but owning only what is used right now is key to being organized in a small space.

Here are some suggestions for places to donate your unused art supplies:

where to donate art supplies
  • Contact your local public school, elementary, middle, or high school and speak to the art teacher to see if they are in need of supplies.

  • If you are currently in an art club or a Facebook group for artists, offer your supplies for free or at a low cost.

  • See if your town has a reuse center for arts and crafts. For example, in Lexington, Kentucky, there is Lex Center for Creative Reuse, where you can not only donate your art supplies, but also items can be purchased at a sliding scale.

By donating your unused art supplies, you are not only decluttering your space, but you are also helping others create beautiful things in this world.
